“So, this is Christmas… and what have you done?”
That lyric of John Lennon’s has traditionally held me accountable every year about this time. Have I accomplished what I set out to achieve this year?
Feels… yeah, even more frustrating than usual. I’m sure I’m not alone in that.
For obvious reasons this year seems to have left an especially bitter aftertaste, hasn’t it?
Apparently, our dreams need a reboot. We need to reassess every year, but perhaps even more so now than ever. This year we can’t help but appreciate some of the most, simple things… things we’ve mostly taken for granted up till now.
Instead of focusing on the endless fatigue, put your sites on how you can commit to DOING something that improves your skills and your ability to realize your goals, such as finally committing to making a routine out of our Vocal Warm Up, or listening to a past coaching session or two that offered some especially insightful techniques and concepts. Game changers. Or even scheduling some much needed private coaching. Maybe it’s time to ensure your home recording isn’t undermining your ability to book more gigs—upgrades are inevitable from time to time. This might just be that time.
To sum it up, a LACK of structure is a recipe for nothingness and makes you feel pretty empty. So, the solution: get scheduled and then follow through! Seriously. Aim to accomplish just 2-3 things a day. (This way if you only get 1-2 things done, you’re still making progress. See how that works! Bonus!) You can start today… or wait till you’ve finished all the leftovers, and taken the tree down, washed all the dishes… and the windows… and reorganized the attic.
Or you can start now… and just CONNECT. Tis the season! Seek out the people that bring out the best in you! It doesn’t have to be on the day. Christmas is the universal solvent! It’s a reason… and the reason is the season!
So, take care of yourself and others… Know that you’re loved and missed.
The year ahead does in fact hold the promise for more life, more love, and more joy!
In the meantime, may I present: TWO half-hour long, recorded “GIFTS” from our house to yours to help your voiceover career. We hope you enjoy them!
